Tour Highlights

Diego Suarez – Stroll through its wide streets, take in the sights of colonial buildings and enjoy the sleepy atmosphere. As a popular port of call for cruise ships – on busy days the restaurants and bars fill up quickly and there’s a buzz in the usually quiet town.

Montagne d’Ambre National Park – A prominent volcanic massif, crater lakes and waterfalls make this one of Madagascar’s most beautiful and biologically diverse areas. Taking its name from the resin that seeps from some of the trees (some over 40 m tall), the Amber Mountain sits in a rainforest rising up from the drier lowland surrounds.

On arrival at Diego Suarez airport, you will be met by your guide and transferred to Nature Lodge. The eco-lodge is situated at the entrance of Montagne d’Ambre National Park, close to Diego Suarez (Antsiranana) in the north of Madagascar, and overlooks the Bay of Diego in the Channel of Mozambique. Depending on the time of arrival, we enjoy a guided afternoon visit to the park, before returning to our warm and cosy lodge for the evening.
After breakfast, we depart for the Montagne d’Ambre National Park for a full-day excursion. Deriving its name from the resin that seeps from some of its trees, the Amber Mountain sits in a rainforest rising from much dryer surrounding lowlands. You have the opportunity to see lemurs, splendid scenery, birds and waterfalls, as well as rare endemic plants.
Today we head back to Diego, where you spend the last night. Take some time to explore this town, a mosaic of people where white djellabas meet with the multi-coloured loincloths of the women, who often have beauty masks on their faces. Your hotel is situated in the beautiful bay of Diego Suarez, set in a tropical garden and only 5 minutes away from the city centre. Its elegant rooms and suites offer you panoramic views over the turquoise waters of the ocean.
After breakfast you will be collected and taken to the airport of Diego Suarez, where your northern Madagascar experience sadly comes to an end.
