Nyerere National Park, formerly part of the Selous Game Reserve, is Tanzania’s largest national park and a haven for untamed wilderness. Covering over 30,000 square kilometres, this vast ecosystem boasts diverse landscapes including open savannahs, wetlands, woodlands, and the mighty Rufiji River.
Home to an incredible variety of wildlife, the park offers sightings of elephants, lions, leopards, wild dogs, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles. Bird enthusiasts can look forward to spotting over 400 recorded species. Unique to Nyerere is the combination of traditional game drives with water-based safaris along the Rufiji River, where encounters with pods of hippos and basking crocodiles are commonplace.
