Johann grew up near Silwerstrand Golf Estate which is part of the Robertson Wine Valley just outside of Cape Town, where he played weekly with his dad. His dad was the captain of the golf committee for many years and was deeply involved in the sport and its culture. In the old days, families used to go to the course, taking on leadership roles in the community, holding events, and giving speeches. Johann learnt to love golf and has kept this passion alive throughout his adult life.
As a teenager and young man, he began to take golf more seriously. He won a local tournament at Silwerstrand and was invited to the launch of the Pinnacle Point Cup in 2003. Johann spent all his holidays along the Garden Route, which exposed him to many amazing courses, including Fancourt, George Golf Club, Knysna, Plett, Mossel Bay, and St Francis Links. Johann enjoys all of these clubs—the challenges are varied, and the scenery along the coast is out of this world.
When Johann started his career in tourism, he wanted to share these destinations with golf enthusiasts.
