A Quagga foal named Khumba

It is a rare thing indeed for something to come back from extinction. However, this is exactly what the Quagga Project is all about. This organisation began in 1987 with the aim of breeding the unique species of zebra back to life and re-introducing them to their former habitats.

One representative of their continuing good work is a young Quagga foal named Khumba. Khumba has been named after the main character in an award-winning South African animation film. The film follows the story of a zebra who is looking for his missing stripes.

You can see the see Khumba the Quagga on the slopes of Table Mountain, in the Table Mountain National Park of Cape Town. Just another reason to visit – as if you really needed one!
