We invite you to take this adventurous self-drive safari from Johannesburg to Durban to explore this beautiful country independently. We provide you with your own rental car, book accommodation for you and suggest highlights to see on the way – but after all, it is up to you how you plan each day. Panorama Route

Situated within the Mpumalanga province, the Panorama Route is seen as one of South Africa’s most beautiful scenic routes that link many great cultural and natural locations. The Panorama Route in Mpumalanga offers a truly spectacular journey through some of the country’s most stunning natural landscapes. Highlights along this scenic route include the Blyde River Canyon, one of the largest green canyons in the world, offering awe-inspiring views and the iconic Three Rondavels rock formation. Visitors can also explore Bourke’s Luck Potholes, a geological wonder of cylindrical rock formations created by swirling water, and take in the panoramic vistas from God’s Window, a viewpoint that lives up to its heavenly name. The route is also dotted with numerous cascading waterfalls, lush forests, and charming towns, making it a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike.

Kruger National Park

There are eight main gates in the Kruger National Park, and the Park itself is home to six ecosystems, 517 different bird species and the world-renowned Big Five.

Kingdom of Eswatini

The country is named after the 19th century King Mswati II and is known for its stunning open natural landscapes and traditional African heritage.

St Lucia

Visit this UNESCO World Heritage site known for its outstanding natural importance.

Ballito Bay

A premier destination with wonderful climates, long, clean beaches and safe bathing and surfing within a sparkling sea.

The onus is on the client to organize all visas required to visit South Africa and Swaziland prior to departure.

Upon arrival at OR Tambo International Airport, you will proceed to the Avis Car Hire depot to collect your hired car. From Johannesburg you will head east towards Mpumalanga, through a landscape characterized by mountains, panoramic passes, valleys, rivers, waterfalls and forests. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure and you will spend the night in the forestry town of Graskop.
This morning you will start your scenic drive along the Panorama Route, arguably one of the most beautiful destinations in South Africa. The most spectacular stretch is the Blyde River Canyon, which is the 3rd largest canyon in the world, and filled with lush vegetation and wildlife. The following day you will have an opportunity to visit the world famous Kruger National Park.
Today you cross the border into the mountainous Kingdom of Eswatini, led by King Mswati III, one of the 3 monarchies in Africa. You will explore the traditions and discover the culture of which the Swazis are so proud. En route you will have the opportunity to visit the Ngwena Glass Factory.
Today you will re-enter South Africa via Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. Continue to Ghost Mountain Inn, situated at the foot of the legendary Mkuze Ghost Mountain. You will have the opportunity to embark on the following optional game activities: an open vehicle game drive in the Mkhuze Game Reserve, guided walks, cultural excursions and boat cruises.
Today you will drive to iSimangaliso Wetland Park, which was listed as South Africa’s first World Heritage Site. This afternoon you will be able to take an optional boat cruise on the St Lucia estuary, getting up close to the hippos and crocodiles that inhabit the lake. Finally, you head towards your accommodation in beautiful Ballito.
Today you will leave Ballito and make your way to the coastal city of Durban. Experience some of the many diverse pursuits and visit enchanting locations within easy reach or simply relax on the golden sandy beaches to soak up the African sun.
This morning after breakfast, drive to King Shaka International Airport to drop off your hired car in time for your departure flight. We hope to welcome you on one of our African adventures again soon.
