Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park is one of Rwanda’s most powerful natural destinations. Set in the country’s northwest, where the Virunga Mountains rise into the clouds, the park is best known as one of the world’s rare places to see endangered mountain gorillas in the wild.

But the experience is bigger than one sighting. It is the cool mountain air, the bamboo forests, the sound of trackers moving quietly through the vegetation, and the feeling of stepping into a landscape that has shaped decades of conservation history.

This is where gorilla trekking becomes more than a safari activity. It becomes a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with one of Africa’s most remarkable species.

Beyond the Gorillas

Volcanoes National Park also offers rewarding experiences beyond gorilla trekking. Golden monkey tracking is a lighter, playful forest experience, with these rare primates moving quickly through the bamboo.

Travellers can also visit the Dian Fossey tomb and research site, hike volcanic trails, or explore nearby cultural experiences around Musanze. These add more depth to the visit and help tell the wider story of conservation, community, and Rwanda’s natural heritage.
