Lake Kariba Accommodation

Lake Kariba is the largest man-made lake in the world and Lake Kariba accommodation is usually set close to the lake itself. It is a destination which holds many fascinations: its wildlife, national parks, and mountain ranges, the culture of the Tongan people, and its history. The Kariba Wall was built to harness the power of the mighty Zambezi River for hydroelectric energy for both Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Covering nearly 6 000 square kilometres, Lake Kariba is abundant with life. Game viewing by boat, cruising along the shoreline of the Matusadona National Park, offers up close and personal encounters with wildlife.  Matusadona is teeming with animals, a variety of species reliant on its water-rich landscape. It has held the record for highest lion population in Africa as well as a stronghold for elephant and black rhino. Game viewing while floating along on a boat near the park’s shoreline guarantees animal sightings. These may be aquatic birdlife, animals congregating to drink or perhaps a sighting of crocodile or hippo.

Time on Lake Kariba includes cruising its waters, exploring islands and inlets, and of course; fishing. Tiger fishing draws fishermen from around the world. For the more relaxed fisherman, one may try their hand at bream fishing while sipping on a cocktail, hopefully catching their dinner for the evening, from lake to plate!
