This package combines the best of both worlds with breath-taking beaches and an abundance of unique wildlife on our Beach and Lemur Package. Be enchanted by the turquoise waters of Nosy Komba and meet lemurs up-close at Andasibe National Park. The secluded Mandrare River Camp, surrounded by the spiny forest and the fascinating Antandroy tribe, offers barefoot luxury and gives you an important insight into local culture.

Nosy Komba

Spend three spectacular days on this volcanic Madgascar island. Nosy Komba neighbors popular Nosy Be and is known for its beautiful landscapes and white sandy beaches. There are a variety of activities available but the most popular is certainly visiting the black lemurs at the Black Lemur Sanctuary, bird watching, whale spotting, diving, and snorkeling. For a more cultural experience on your Madagascar holiday, visit the fishing villages scattered along the shoreline and explore the markets of the main village, Ampangorinana. Top of the shopping list of most visitors are embroidered goods, wood carvings and woven baskets.

Andasibe

Only three hours from Anantanarivo  lies the Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. This is pristine primary forest that is untouched by humans and we will embark on both a day and night walk during your two day tour of Andasibe. It is a haven and refuge for some incredible Madagascar wildlife, insects, plants and birds. Expect to see lemurs and chameleons of many colors on this leg of your  guided Madagascar safari tour. Its cool and temperate so there’s a good chance of rain – be prepared!

Antananarivo

Antananarivo is Madagascar’s capital city with a rich history. Scenic landscapes surround the city offering many hiking routes for nature lovers. The city doesn’t sleep at night and is known its nightlife.

Ifotaka

End off your incredible Madagascar Beach and Lemur experience with three nights in Ifotaka. It is known for its spectacular natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and numerous historical, sacred sites. The Ifotaka Community Forest is a remote sanctuary under the protection of the local Antandroy people. This unspoilt Madagascan gem features not just incredible landscapes but ancient hidden tombs and a wide variety of lemurs and many bird species, such as the malachite kingfisher, hook-billed vangas, scops owl, and many others.

Pre-Tour Information

Departure

When arriving in Nosy Be on Day 1 of the Beach and Lemur Explorer you will be picked up from the airport and will proceed with your tour. Should you arrive prior to day 1, or require accommodation in Antananarivo, we can arrange pre-tour accommodation for you if required.

Transport (Tana – Anasibe – Taba)

For 3 or less pax we use a Peugeot sedan car and for 4 or more pax we use a Mercedes Sprinter or similar sized vehicle. Should you require an air-conditioned vehicle, please note this may be at an additional cost, & must be requested at the time of enquiry.

Visas for Madagascar

A visa is required to enter the territory of Madagascar and can easily be obtained upon arrival at the airport of Antananarivo with a validity of up to 60 days. Tourists staying in the country for less than a month can purchase a visa (approx. €35), which can be paid with Mastercard or Visa. No photographs are required, however please ensure that passports are valid for at least 6 months after the return date. Kindly note that for the visa upon arrival, a valid return ticket is required. Alternatively, you can obtain a visa for a duration of less than 15 days at a cost of only €30. The E-visa website, https://evisamada-mg.com/en/home, is fully operational, allowing individuals to apply for the E-visa and make payment using a credit card. Once the application is approved, a PDF file will be issued, which can be presented upon arrival in exchange for a visa stamp in the passport.

Travel Insurance

Please note that travel and cancellation insurance is mandatory for every guest travelling with JENMAN African Safaris. All insurance is solely the responsibility of our guests. Please ensure you arrange your own insurance with protection for the full duration of your journey to cover personal injury, damage and loss of personal items including but not limited to camera equipment and other electronic items, medical expenses, repatriation expenses and loss of luggage, etc. Please speak to your travel agent if you require assistance.

Welcome to the Nosy Be Archipelago! On arrival at the airport in Nosy Be you will be met and transferred by car to Hell-Ville where you will continue to Tsara Komba Lodge by boat. You will be spending the next 4 nights on Nosy Komba, the most beautiful island of the Nosy Be archipelago and also known as ‘Lemur Island’. This eco-paradise describes its own atmosphere as ‘the life in the slow lane’ giving you the perfect opportunity to simply unwind and relax. The more active traveller can choose from a myriad of activities such scuba-diving, snorkelling, guided hikes as well as visits to the local villages (all excursions are optional and for clients own account). Equipment for snorkelling, beach volleyball, beach racket ball, badminton, frisbees or canoe trips, reading or parlour games is available free of charge in the main lodge or at the beach.
After a leisurely breakfast, check out of Tsara Komba hotel and transfer to the airport for your departing flight to Antananarivo (flight price quoted separately). You will spend the night in Antananarivo before continuing your journey.
Today you will head to Andasibe through the green and luxuriant vegetation of the east. Along the way you will see villages of the Merina people scattered throughout the rocky mountainside. Enroute we will stop at the Exotic Park in Marozevo, a fascinating reserve dedicated to Madagascar’s unique reptiles, amphibians, and insects. Continue to Andasibe and, on arrival, check in to your hotel before visiting the V.O.I.M.M.A Community Reserve. This reserve provides a sustainable way of saving the remaining rainforests in the area by creating a livelihood for the local communities through reforestation projects. Here you will also come across a variety of wildlife, ranging from brown lemurs, indri, chameleons, geckos and birds. Return to the hotel where we overnight.
After breakfast, enjoy a 3-4 hour guided visit to the Analamazaotra Special Reserve, where you will discover the many species dwelling in the forest. Your guide will search for the Indri, the largest lemurs on the island. This 810 ha reserve is unique with its endemic fauna and flora. It contains a wide variety of orchids, canopy, and endemic animals like chameleons, tenrecs, and many birds.The day concludes with a visit to Lemur Island – a sanctuary dedicated to rescued lemurs. Here, you’ll have an up-close encounter with these charismatic primates.
Today you will begin you journey back to Antananarivo where you will overnight.
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred back to Ivato International Airport for your two-hour flight (flight price quoted separately) to Fort Dauphin, on the south-eastern coast of Madagascar. Upon arrival you will be met by your guide and will have lunch in Fort Dauphin, before driving west towards Antandroy Spiny Forest. The three-hour journey offers a contrast of landscapes ranging from the rice paddies of the eastern seaboard over the lush tropical plateau to the drier arid region of sisal plantations and “spiny forest”. Upon arrival at the camp settle into your accommodation and enjoy the breath-taking views across the Mandrare River. Later you will embark on a night walk in either the Forest of Analoalo or Ambovo. This unique experience allows you to witness diurnal lemurs finding their resting spots, while the nocturnal lemurs start to come alive in the otherworldly Spiny Forest. During the walk, you will have the chance to observe sifakas and sleeping white-foot sportive lemurs. As the sun sets, you’ll encounter two species of mouse lemurs, slumbering birds, fascinating chameleons, and active sportive lemurs
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast on the banks of the river, before embarking on a trip to the sacred Antandroy forest, crossing the river on foot to observe lemurs and many bird species. Lunch will be served at your camp, and there will be time to relax before you depart on an afternoon activity, unless you would prefer to rest at camp and enjoy the serenity of the river. In the late afternoon, embark on a leisurely stroll through the hallowed spiny forest, which houses the ancestral tombs of the indigenous Antandroy tribe. This remarkable ecosystem is home to a diverse range of plant and animal species found exclusively within the spiny forest. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide and a knowledgeable tracker from the local community, you will receive an insightful introduction to the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Antandroy people. Your visit is followed by sundowners on the Mandrare River banks.
Start your morning with tea or coffee before embarking on an early stroll through the spiny forest. Watch as sunlight filters through octopus trees and keep an eye out for unique birds like the crested coua. Return to camp for a hearty breakfast and then explore the local market or visit the fascinating Antandroy village, known for its rich culture. After lunch at the camp, unwind on your tent’s terrace, observing riverside life. At 5pm, venture out for a mesmerizing sundowner experience amidst the baobabs, where you can witness the sun’s descent and the moon’s ascent over the baobab-dotted landscape. In the evening, there’s a possibility of witnessing enchanting traditional dances by the local village, accompanied by captivating music and singing. This performance offers a glimpse into the core ofAntandroy culture, where music and dance are integral to their rituals and daily life.
Following breakfast, travel to Fort Dauphin (approximately 2.5 hours) and check in to your hotel overlooking the Indian Ocean. This afternoon, visit Nahampoana Reserve, home to endemic flora and fauna, including lemurs, chameleons and native birdlife. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy the evening at leisure.
After breakfast, head to the airport for your scheduled flight to Antananarivo (flight price quoted separately), where you will make your onward connection for your departure flight.
