All our guided group tours can be offered on a private basis, and all our packages can be customized. Our experienced destination experts will design itineraries tailored to your needs and budget.

Discover the diversity of a distinctive destination with a 6-day trip to the arid yet striking Western region of Madagascar. This tour package will allow you to experience the best of Western Madagascar’s landscapes and wildlife while staying in some of Madagascar’s most popular hotels. Due to the deteriorating road conditions caused by the heavy rains, this package only runs from the end of May until mid-November. Famous for the staggered, limestone “forests” of the Tsingy de Bemaraha National Park, the towering baobabs and the incredible creatures of Kirindy Reserve – the wilderness of the west will be sure to amaze! The Baobab & Kirindy Adventure shows off the best that Western Madagascar has to offer with highlights including visits to Morondava and Tsingy, starting and ending in Antananarivo.

Highlights of the Tour

Antananarivo

Antananarivo is the busy capital city of Madagascar and the start of most Madagascar safaris. This city deserves it’s place on your Madagascar itinerary. It’s a vibey, colourful city that offers visitors a glimpse of Malagasy society. The architecture tells the story of the city’s history, with the Rova of Antananarivo palace complex the undeniable jewel in it’s crown. Visit the pink baroque Andafiavaratra Palace and enjoy the pretty Jacaranda trees surrounding lake Anosy.

Morondava

Situated in the heart of Sakalava territory, Morondava is known for the royal sculpted tombs of the Menabe ancestors and for being the gateway to the Avenue of the Baobabs, one of the most photogenic places in Madagascar.

Zazamalala Reserve

Conservation-focused wildlife and reforestation center home to diverse lemurs, reptiles, and birds

Kirindy Reserve

The Kirindy Reserve is where you’ll have the opportunity to see a variety of Madagascan lemurs – up to 7 different species! From the smallest primate, the tiny Pygmy Mouse lemur to the fat-tailed lemur.  It’s not just about lemurs because it’s also the best place to see the giant jumping rat as well as the Fossa, the largest predator on the island.

You will be met on arrival to Ivato airport and transferred to your hotel in Antananarivo, where you can relax from your flight and take a swim. Depending on your arrival time, there may be an opportunity for you to ask the hotel to do a tour to the handicrafts market (additional expense).
You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Morondava, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After settling in, you will visit Zazamalala Reserve, a private conservation area home to lemurs, baobabs, and unique dry forest wildlife.
Today is a day of discovery and adventure! We set out early to visit the Kirindy Reserve. In Kirindy you will have the chance to see 7 species of lemurs, including the fat-tailed lemur and the tiny Pygmy Mouse lemur, believed to be the world’s smallest primate. Kirindy is the best place to see the giant jumping rat as well as the Fossa (Madagascar’s largest predator), and you can also witness various spiny tenrecs, birds and reptiles aplenty. The diverse flora includes three of the six endemic Malagasy baobabs. Return to Morondava via the iconic Avenue of the Baobabs, arriving just in time for sunset. Watch as the towering, centuries-old baobabs are bathed in golden and fiery orange light, creating a dramatic, picture perfect scene that captures the essence of Madagascar’s unique landscapes.
Start the day with a 4×4 drive into Kirindy and nearby Akiba Reserve (Marofandilia) for morning walks among sifakas, red-fronted lemurs, and possibly the elusive fosa. In the afternoon, head to the coast to visit Betania, a traditional Vezo fishing village, reached by pirogue (a small, dugout canoe) through peaceful mangroves. Here you can meet locals, observe boat-building, and experience authentic Malagasy coastal life.
After your memorable experience in baobab country, transfer to Morondava Airport for your flight back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival, enjoy a smooth transfer to your hotel, where you can relax and reflect on your Madagascar adventure.
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Antananarivo where your unforgettable tour ends. We hope to welcome you in Madagascar again very soon!
