Highlights of the Sodwana Bay Diving & Wildlife Safari Tour

Sodwana Bay

Sodwana Bay is South Africa’s premier dive destination, nestled within the UNESCO-listed iSimangaliso Wetland Park. It is the only tropical dive site in the country and features pristine coral reefs, warm Indian Ocean waters, and a high diversity of marine life. Dive sites such as 2 Mile, 5 Mile, and 7 Mile Reef offer dramatic underwater topography, from coral overhangs and swim-throughs to sponge gardens and pinnacles. Expect sightings of reef sharks, dolphins, turtles, moray eels, nudibranchs, manta rays, and—if you’re lucky—even a rare Coelacanth. With visibility often reaching up to 30 metres and water temperatures ranging between 19°C and 29°C, Sodwana is ideal for diving year-round.

Zuka Private Game Reserve

Part of the Mun-ya-wana Conservancy in northern KwaZulu-Natal, Zuka Private Game Reserve is a rewilding success story, home to the iconic Big Five and more. The reserve spans over 10,000 hectares and borders the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, creating a unique marine-to-bush safari circuit. Guests at Bayala Game Lodge will enjoy twice-daily game drives through acacia woodland, sand forest, and open savannah, spotting elephants, lions, leopards, buffalo, and both black and white rhinos. The reserve also hosts cheetahs, African wild dogs, giraffes, and a rich bird population. Sundowners and storytelling around the campfire complete the safari experience.

Upon arrival at King Shaka International Airport, you will be transferred to your lodge in the small coastal village of Sodwana Bay, gateway to diving in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Over the next 5 days, you’ll enjoy a variety of 10 drift dives, on pristine coral reefs. The diving takes place every morning, while the afternoons are yours to spend at leisure. You will be spending 6 nights in the Sodwana Bay National Park, with 2 daily dives (total of 10 dives). Dives that are part of your package, are done to 2 Mile Reef. This is since numerous dive sites are located in this area. Should your certification allow, and weather permitting, you may like to dive to the sites located further north. There will be a small surcharge to cover the extra distance (own cost). Sadly, conditions do not often allow for night launches in the park.
This morning you’ll be transferred to your game lodge, Bayala Safari Lodge. Over the next two days, you’ll enjoy 2 daily game drives (shared), with plenty of time to relax and unwind at the lodge as well.
It will be time for a last early morning Game Drive, before checking out of your lodge. You’ll be transferred to the airport for your departure flight, marking the end of your journey.
