Isimangaliso Wetland Park is located on the east coast of Kwazulu Natal, 235 km from Durban. As the largest Estuarine park in South Africa, as well as being a Unesco World Heritage Site, the park is highly valued and protected. Its centerpiece is Lake St Lucia. The lake is home to hippos, crocodiles, pelicans, flamingos, and a variety of other birdlife, with 526 bird species throughout the park.
Made up of 3 280 km sq, it includes the St Lucia Game Reserve, False Bay Park, St Lucia Marine Reserve, Sodwana Bay National Park among others! Five separate ecosystems exist within the park, each function individually yet fully integrated with each other. From sub-tropical forests to long sandy beaches, estuary lakes, swamp forests and savanna dry woodlands – the park is abundant in abundance!
One can snorkel in Kosi Bay, dive in Sodwana Bay, go game viewing in both the western and eastern shores, take a turtle tour or chase the sun on a sunset cruise. The options are diverse and varied – much to discover throughout the park as a whole!
