The Town of Livingstone, Zambia

Named after missionary and explorer David Livingstone, this border town of Zambia holds much history. Livingstone is situated a mere 10 km from the Victoria Falls, right on the doorstep of this world wonder. The town was established in 1905 during the building of the bridge between Zambia and Zimbabwe, a vision of Cecil John Rhodes.

Livingstone contains the largest and oldest museum in Zambia, located in the heart of town. A visit here will satisfy historical, cultural, and archeological curiosity. It is also the home to some of David Livingstone’s letters and memorabilia. A peek into the past. It is also home to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a small but vibrant park along the banks of the Zambezi River. The highlight of the park is its white rhino population, alongside elephants, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and lion.

Whether it’s high tea on the Royal Livingstone lawns, jet boating to sit above the waterfall in Devil’s Pool, bungee jump, microlight, enjoy a river cruise or visit the local cultural village and market – the bustling town has many activity options.

It is the perfect springboard into your Zambian adventure – fulfilling your historical, adrenaline and cultural appetite before heading off on safari.
