Dhows on the Zambezi

There’s an exciting new way to experience the beauty of the Zambezi River in Victoria Falls! Enjoy a sunrise or sunset cruise on a traditional handcrafted East African dhow, the only one of its kind in Zimbabwe. Let the beautiful birdsong and the gentle lapping of water against the hull lull you into a feeling of ultimate serenity and calm while watching the world drift by from the comfort of big, plush cushions. Spot wildlife along the river banks while nibbling on meze platters and enjoying cold refreshing drinks. This experience is barefoot luxury at its finest and absolutely not to be missed when in Victoria Falls.

The 2 dhows, Zambezi Tribe and Zambezi Origin, are collectively known as Zambezi Truth and were expertly built in Dar es Salaam by traditional workmen who have been building the boats for generations. They then started a long overland journey to the landlocked country of Zimbabwe to their new home on the Zambezi River, travelling by truck and crossing multiple borders. As the first and only dhows in Zimbabwe sailing on them is a truly unique experience, in fact, they are so rare and iconic that guests on other cruises gather to take pictures of this beautiful image. Seating a maximum of 12 people and a minimum of 2, it is an intimate journey where guests will revel in the splendour of the wild beauty around them. There’s romance in the air as couples snuggle on the soft seats and watch the sky turn to hues of gold. Friends and family experience true relaxation in a bohemian setting.

This experience will be available to all our guided group tours that visit Victoria Falls as well as any guests to Victoria Falls who would like to experience the magical journey. Voyages set out at sunrise and sunset and can also be booked privately for any time.

We are a leading safari tour operator that provides world-class guided group tours and tailor-made packages throughout Southern Africa, East Africa, and Madagascar, ensuring unique wildlife experiences.
