Entebbe is a city in Central Uganda, situated on the northern shores of Lake Victoria approximately 35 kilometers southwest of the capital city, Kampala. It serves as the gateway to Uganda due to its international airport, Entebbe International Airport, which is the country’s largest and busiest airport.
Historical Significance
Entebbe is renowned for its historical significance, and vibrant culture. Entebbe served as the administrative and political center of the British colonial government during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The city was established as a colonial outpost, and its strategic location on the shores of Lake Victoria facilitated trade and communication with other British colonies in East Africa. One of the most notable events in Entebbe’s history occurred in 1976 when Israeli commandos carried out a daring rescue operation at Entebbe International Airport. Palestinian and German terrorists had hijacked an Air France plane and landed it in Entebbe, holding Israeli passengers hostage. The rescue operation, known as Operation Entebbe or Operation Thunderbolt, successfully freed the hostages and captured the hijackers, cementing Entebbe’s place in global history. The city is home to many ethnic groups, including Baganda, Banyankole, and immigrants from neighboring countries.

When To Travel To Entebbe
The weather in Uganda is characterized by a tropical climate, with relatively consistent temperatures throughout the year. Daytime temperatures typically range from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures may drop slightly. The dry seasons, which are the best times to visit for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing, occur from December to February and from June to August.
Entebbe experiences two rainy seasons: the long rainy season from March to May and the short rainy season from October to November.
