Things to do in Madagascar

Located in the Indian Ocean off the southeastern coast of Africa, Madagascar is the world’s fourth-largest island and is often referred to as the “eighth continent” due to its distinct and isolated biodiversity. There are many things to do in Madagascar, and it appeals to nature lovers, adventure seekers, and those looking to explore a world of unique biodiversity and cultural richness.

Madagascar remains largely untouched by mass tourism, preserving its authenticity and charm. Unlike crowded tourist destinations, you can explore the island at your own pace, connect with locals, and truly experience the country.

Tsingy de Bemaraha

Tsingy de Bemaraha is a nature reserve situated 70 kilometers inland from Madagascar’s west coast. Avenue of the Baobabs

Madagascar offers a stunning array of unique plant life. Among its natural wonders is the Avenue of the Baobabs, a famous natural landmark that creates a surreal and mystical path lined by ancient baobab trees. The baobabs are over 800 years old, with tall, smooth trunks and a series of branches extending like the fingers of a hand at the very top. The Avenue of Baobabs is situated in Madagascar’s southeast region, just 45 minutes north of Morondava.

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park

Andasibe-Mantadia National Park is home to a plethora of wildlife, including chameleons and many different lemurs. Spot the graceful sifaka, known as the dancing lemur, or listen for the haunting call of the indri, the largest lemur species. With over 100 species of wildlife to discover, this 162 km2 park is a must-visit for nature lovers. Two protected areas divide the park: Indri d’Analamazaotra’s special reserve (8,1 km2) and Mantadia’s national park (154,8 km2). The park is located in the eastern part of Madagascar.

Isalo National Park

Isalo National Park, located in the southwest of Madagascar, is one of the country’s most popular natural parks. Because of the dry climate, you can visit all year without worrying about heavy rains. The park itself is a desert and savannah landscape with enormous canyons and oases. Isalo provides visitors with breathtaking panoramic views, as well as some of Madagascar’s most recognizable wildlife, including lemurs.
