Our top island destinations: Madagascar island is a Garden of Eden. Since its departure from the African continent millions of years ago, the island has sprouted a multitude of biospheres and islets flourishing with their own endemic plant and animal life. So, to help alleviate your destination evaluation, we have decided to compile our list of Madagascar Island Top Destinations.
Deciding on your next travel destination can be very taxing. The paradox of choice, especially when given an entire planet to choose from, can seem paralyzing at times. But what if you had the opportunity to experience a proverbial Garden of Eden in the span of a single holiday? You must be thinking, surely that would take a miracle. Well, think again.
Nosy Boraha (Ile Saint Marie)
Nosy Boraha is one of the top ‘chill’ locations in all of Madagascar. It is situated just 8km off the western side of the mainland. With its long white sandy beaches that stretch for miles, it exudes peace and tranquillity that tends to be the much-needed remedy from the rat race we call life.
Those looking for a sense of exploration should not be discouraged as the island is crossed with trails allowing for spectacular walks or bike rides through the rainforest. The island has several fantastic accommodations for you to choose from. Stay in the Princess Bora lodge for a classic experience on the island with the Isle St Marie Beach Package.

Nosy Be
Nosy Be is one of the more frequented islands of Madagascar, and for good reason. The island has an assortment of great activities, from diving with tropical fish to visiting the bouncing lemurs at the Lokobe integral reserve, not to mention the sweet scent of ylang-ylang and vanilla that permeates the island air. If that’s the sort of thing that you are interested in, be sure to check out one or both of our amazing Nosy Be Diving & Wildlife Adventure and Nosy Be Beach tours.

Nosy Komba
Visit the extravagant volcanic island of Nosy Komba. Being so easily accessible, the island has been a popular destination for travellers coming to Madagascar. It is a great place to visit if you are looking for beautiful clean beaches and incredible snorkelling locations. The island is also engulfed with a lush tropical forest that is inhabited by many endemic species. So, jump to it and get on the Madagascar Luxury Island Hopping Upmarket to enjoy Nosy Komba as one of many great stops on the tour.
Nosy Sakatia
Like its counterpart Nosy Komba, the island of Nosy Sakatia is only a quick boat trip from the island of Nosy Be, allowing for quick access without that burdensome mid-trip stay over on your way to your destination. The island is a great dive and snorkel spot and the accommodation is ready to get you living like a true islander. If you plan on visiting, make sure to check out the Sakatia Lodge. This picturesque lodge has a range of great accommodation options, from the classic nature bungalows that offer a more ethnic and rustic feel, to the 3 bedroomed villa situated right on the beach perfect for that family vacation. Whatever your preference, be sure to take a look at a few of our packages if Nosy Sakatia is the holiday destination for you!

Tsarabanjina
Tsarabanjina is a tiny island situated roughly 40 miles from the tourist hotspot of Nosy Be. As one of the smallest tourist islands that surround Madagascar, Tsarabanjina has to be one of the most scenic destinations in the Indian Ocean. Surrounded by crystal clear water that looks like something out of Getaway Magazine, and only accessible via boat, the island has just one lodge which is the epitome of barefoot luxury. If spending your next holiday on a remote island soaking up the sun and sipping cocktails, then don’t forget to check out our Tsarabanjina Luxury Getaway package.

Day Visits to Madagascar Island Top Destinations
Last, but certainly not least, don’t forget about the day trips to the myriad of islands that call Madagascar home. Our favourites are the islands of Nosy Tanikely and Nosy Ve. Nosy Tanikely is the small-uninhabited islet off of Nosy Be. As a marine sanctuary, it’s one of the top snorkel destinations in the world and therefore should not be missed if you find yourself in Madagascar. Nosy Ve, essentially a 1:1000 scale version of the island of Madagascar, has gained its reputation from the red-tailed tropical bird that calls the island home. This island, among many other spots in Madagascar for bird watching, is definitely one of our top island destinations.
Protecting Madagascar’s Unique Marine Life
Madagascar is more than a paradise for beach lovers. It is a hotspot for marine biodiversity. From the vibrant coral reefs around Nosy Be to the clear waters near Tsarabanjina, these ecosystems are home to countless endemic species. Conservation efforts are underway to expand and consolidate Madagascar’s network of marine protected areas. Organizations like WWF play a vital role in preserving these habitats, supporting sustainable tourism, and promoting responsible diving and snorkeling. Visiting these islands responsibly allows travelers to enjoy Madagascar’s natural beauty while helping protect its fragile marine ecosystems.
